I agree this is a rising problem. Schools are trying to provide more nutritional food but it really has to start at home. Also encouraging children to go outside and play or take part in other physical activities (team sports) seems to be declining. Many kids go home from school and sit in front of their computer or tv all night.
I think it’s important to teach children the benefits of balancing their foods but not keep them entirely away from snacks or junk food because they will come across them at some point in their lives and won’t know how to eat them in moderation.

Our school sends home the canada food guide, talks about the canada food guide during health class. they also have recently been discussing all the various chemicals that make up cigarettes. my 11 year old can tell you exactly what including manure is in what you are smoking.
the school cafeteria stocks all healthy snacks, have sent home a newsletter on healthy snacks, stressing which might have come in contact with peanuts.
my son will eat a really good breakfast. and then everything goes down hill from there.
no matter what, he will always want fastood to be a food group. not going to happen.
thank god, he loves bananas. otherwise i think after breakfast he would starve.
i have to add: he is far from overweight, and is adhd, which gives him tons of energy. he’s also in taekwondo.
i think some kids are obese not only because of what they eat, but because of video games, they need to be involved in sports or soemthing that gets them moving.
